"I have a bad feeling about tonight," Erick said. "I already know. I can feel it." "So you had a premonition?" I asked. "I don't know what the fuck-- but I'm pretty sure I'm going down tonight. Here's the plan: I'll take out my uncle but you survive to tell my tale."
After his uncle picked us up, we stopped at the local neighborhood liquor store and picked up a six pack to finish in the car on the way to the bar. Erick hated the bars his uncle took him to. This bar was sandwiched between two dirt roads. Woman who looked like dying trees stood outside, pacing the cracked sidewalk underneath the one neon sign that said "Corona." Inside the green concrete rectangle was a divided room: caballeros on one side and damas on the other. Waiters with wet brows and crooked mustaches weaved between the empty middle tables. A four person band set up in the corner. "Victor, just do what I do. Just stare at the beer in front of you. If you look at any of the girls, they'll think you want to talk to them and they'll just make you buy them more beer." Erick's uncle sparked conversation with a mash-up between Chyna and Xena, but as thick and unwieldy as an oak. Her grin had two missing teeth, and she kept ordering beers. The uncle kept saying her body was perfect and she had a nice smile, and asked if she minds walking around him for a closer look. She laughed when she did, and he licked his lips and wiped the sweat off his neck. Erick and I kept staring at the bucket of now empty beers. |

Here is a Lesson in Creative Writing From: A Man Without a Country
First Rule: Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college. And I realize some of you may be having trouble deciding whether I am kidding or not. So from now on I will tell you when I'm kidding. For instance, join the National Guard or the Marines and teach democracy. I'm kidding. We are about to be attacked by Al Qaeda. Wave flags if you have them. That always seems to scare them away. I'm kidding. If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don't have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something. |

These two guys totally didn't know I was taking a picture of them. Then, a couple weeks later, I fell upon an article of photographer Elena Dorfman, whose Still Lovers project puts my snapshot to shame. Her Re-Anime pictures, however, are probably on par to the Comic-Con pictures we took. I don't have those pictures though. |

| Found some lost negatives, pt. 1 |
[Mar. 10th, 2006|09:29 pm] |
This was sometime last summer, and right now I still have glass shards in my backseats (not to mention some permanent David-vomit-residue cemented on the side of my car from halloween a couple years ago that I forgot to clean). My cd player and air conditioner were ripped out. My spare keys and camera were still in the car, and I was more concerned about my camera than anything else.
Now my van has a major dent in the front from some guy who lives in his car in LA. It's cool though, it's cool. |
